I was fifty-four when I wrote my first book, so I guess you would say I was a late bloomer. But as they say, better late than never, and ten years on I am a self-published author of three hardcover picture books, a chapter book for older children and a women’s fiction novel.

I am an old chook reading and enjoying Chick-lit, but as an author, my first novel, Piece by Piece, could be considered Chook-lit because the main character begins her story in 1967 at the age of fifteen, which makes her the same age as me. I felt more comfortable the first time around writing in an era I grew up in, as mostly I could draw facts and happenings from my memory. Now I have moved on to my second novel and this one is set in much more recent times. It’s all about what appeals to the reader, so age really doesn’t play a big part in our reading choices. We just want to be entertained!

Chook-Lit-Chatter not only gives me the opportunity to blog about books I have thoroughly enjoyed, it is my way of connecting with like-minded authors and readers of women’s fiction.

Twenty-Eight and a Half Wishes - A Rose Gardn

A great fast moving story with many twists and turns to keep the reader guessing. Rose is an extremely likeable down to earth girl who just happens to have the ability to see things. Unfortunately, that’s not always a good thing, especially when she sees herself dead. The story plot is intruiging whilst humorous and Read More …

A CLEVER TITLE THAT KEPT ME GUESSING ‘TIL THE END. I really love this ‘easy listening’ ‘actually happening’ style of writing, where the main character speaks directly to me. Alex is a likeable girl and I find myself caught up in her dilemma from the opening pages of the story. I’m right here with her Read More …

Girl Conflicted

REALITY BITES! Reality bit me from the start as the author swept me up and transported me into Emma’s world. A world I identified with immediately in the opening lines. *** ‘I think tonight might be the night.’ I bounce childishly in my chair, nearly knocking over my skinny cappuccino as I barely contain my Read More …

Girl, Unhinged, picks up where Girl, Conflicted left off, with Emma and Joe happy and in love. However, as they say, ‘true love never runs smooth,’ and Emma has her share of ups and downs in this one. Right from the beginning of the first book, I felt as if I knew Emma and her Read More …

The Average Girl

WHAT A BREATH OF FRESH AIR! This story transported me back to a time in my life when being an avid pop and movie star fanatical fan, was a huge part of growing up. As a twelve year old, in 1964, I would have given anything to have met The Beatles. I loved those four Read More …

The Apple of My Eye

I really enjoyed this well written book, which is so much more than a typical love story. Sleeping with Your Best Friend

I read ‘Sleeping With Your Best Friend,’ not long after finishing ‘Natalie’s Getting Married,” and being my first novella, I wasn’t quite prepared to let go of the characters so soon.
